I Want Unlimited International Roaming

Attending university means you have been granted freedom by your family. Having a group of friends who fit well into your lifestyle is the added bonus.

My friend and I (far right)

Imagine different people has different way to enjoy life. Some like outdoor adventure activities, some prefer shopping inside the air-conditioned building well some prefer visiting historical places.

The adventurous

The shopaholic

The sentimental

The probability of going on vacation few times a year is high with "Now Everyone Can Fly" by AirAsia. Although air fare is getting cheaper by the year, living expenses such as accommodations, meals and sight seeing tours have increased. Among the places I have been to pass years are:

Ayutthaya, Thailand

Marina Bay Sands, Singapore

And the place I hope to go very soon in near future:

Big Buddha, Hong Kong (pic courtesy of Sexy Nomad)

Staying connected with my family back at home to inform them about my safety is important. Roaming is not cheap and getting a local number means I have to carry a spare mobile phone along with me at all time.

I hope to update them with whatever I do overseas and make them jealous *evil mood* so that they get hype up and join me for trips next time and paying for me.

I want to inform them:

Took a sip off the Merlion at Singapore.

Received an Oscar from Pitt and Jolie

Shopping Online - The Experience

Before I entered university, I do not have the privilege to have my own bank account or to even own a credit card. Hence, I was dependent on my parents to bring me out shopping. We used to carry bags and bags of our reap under the hot sun.

My mom with a happy face and lots of shopping bags.

Once I entered university, the freedom is all mine. I have my own bank accounts and I love electronic banking. My first experience buying online was booking my flight to Kuching. My friends and I stayed up late in front of the laptops and booked our flight tickets immediately the clock struck 12am on the first day of promotion.

*pray hard so that the server does not experience problems from the huge traffic*
We landed in Kuching by purchasing our tickets online

Time passed and I have encounter with many online shopping opportunities. Blog shops and services that only received only bookings started mushrooming in Malaysia.
Course designed to teach how to run a blog shop

After reading many forum postings commented on successfully selling and buying unwanted extra items at reasonable prices on Lelong.my I decided to check them out myself.

Lelong.my homepage

The deals were hard to believe. As I have also heard countless stories of people falling into various online buying scams, I refrain myself from purchasing anything online.

Stress out look for not able to purchase anything :(

I liked Lelong.my on facebook to read about the comments from various buyers. One day I read through my news feed and noticed that Lelong.my has Superbid every Wednesday. Like their tagline, Superbid makes me go crazy every Wednesday with bid start at RM1!

SuperBid, Wednesday Gone Crazy homepage

This is how it works: Every Wednesday, selected items will be put up for members to bid by just clicking the "Bid Now" button and successful bidder will be notify by email.

Liked Lelong.my on facebook is the biggest mistake in my life. The deals were even harder to believe. Week by week passed by and I have seen many people bid items and purchased at a very affordable low price.

Since the internet connection in my hostel is very slow, I immediately set up 'My Comfort Zone' with soft drinks and popcorns to have better connection to bid the items.

My cosy corner for a comfortable shopping at SuperBid

Shopping did not went smoothly at first. I missed few bids because of the slow internet connection and my hesitation. Eventually I learned from experience and managed to bid for two lomo cameras at market almost half price and this was my first purchase here on SuperBid. Payment was done by using Cimb Clicks.

Cimb Clicks homepage

Few days after payment, I received the items in the mail.

My SuperBid items in the mail box!

I was jumping for joy as I have purchased this items at a very good price.

Jumping in excitement
And I do not need to get stuck in the jam, I can do it at the comfort of my house.

Traffic jam in the Golden Triangle

Here is my items that I was extremely happy!

Holga K200 Fisheye Camera (Blue) RM160+RM7 (postage) RRP: RM250

Nico Digi Digital Camera RM110+RM7 (postage) RRP: RM205

I will definitely be on the look out for better deals in the future only at Lelong.my.

Lelong.my E-Commerce Fair will be happening in Mid Valley Exhibition Centre from 12th-14th August 2011. Do not miss this opportunity to mingle with people from the industry while shopping for attractive items at low price. Check out their website or like them on facebook for more details.

Born This Way - Lady Gaga

1. Lady Gaga real name is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta

2.

3. Why I love Lady Gaga? I love the way she present herself to others. Her sense of fashion and music is very provocative to stimulate attentions from the public. Remember her wearing an all meat outfit supplemented by purse, boots and a hat during 2010 MTV Video Music Awards? That incident stunt everyone and even made it as Time magazine's Fashion Statement of 2010. Bad Romance was stuck in my mind like forever after listening to it once due to its catchy tunes and robotic dance steps. Another of my favourite song is Judas which might sound a bit controversial but I must admit it is a brave effort from her.

Hopefully Lady Gaga will land on Malaysia one day for a full blast concert.

allMalaysia.info is giving out Lady Gaga latest album Born This Way. All you need to do is to follow few simple steps and you might be a lucky winner. Contest ends 31st July 2011.

Selangor Has More...

This blog post is an entry submission for Tourism Selangor Writing Competition.

Tourism Selangor is currently having Tourism Selangor Writing Competition, all you have to do is to write a blogpost between 9-15 April 2011.

What does 'Selangor Has More'? The answer is me! I was born and raised in Puchong, Selangor. (Put this aside, lets get into serious business)

My family and my friend from Hong Kong (left) in front of my house.

Being a true breed of Selangor, there are many interesting places and mouth-watering dishes to show others what 'Selangor Has More'. Each demontrates the uniqueness of the people in Selangor.

Lets start with places to go.

Batu Caves

Batu Caves is located in Sentul. Scaling up the 272 steps of stairs is not an easy task. There are 3 big caves with Hindu shrines located in the main cave. To get there, you just need to board on KTM Komuter train and stop at Batu Caves station. The cave is waliking distance from the station.

Fo Guang Shan Dong Zen Temple

Fo Guang Shan Dong Zen temple is located in Jenjarom. It will be decorated differently every year during Chinese New Year and it is a definite place to visit with the rich flora and fauna.

Royal Selangor Plant

Royal Selangor produce sourvenirs made of pewters. The gallery is open to public for visit and to learn more about the production process.

i-City Shah Alam

i-City is a commercial hub installed with millions of LEDs with different theme that looks like a colourful forest.

Next the food.

Kajang satay

Kajang satay is a must have in Selangor. The juicy and tender meat is barbeque till perfection accompany by peanut sauce and condiments such as cucumber and onions.

With these teaser, it prove that 'Selangor Has More' stuff than other states. There are more attractive places and wondergul food to be explore. Why not come over to Selangor and check it out yourself.

Do check Tourism Selangor for more details.

My First Podcast #LOLshowand Stand A Chance to Win a Blackberry

Since I am having my semester break now, I actively paticipate in many online contests. While reading through my Facebook news feed, BlackBerry Malaysia fan page offer the chance to win a BlackBerry Curve 3G!

Without any hesitation, I immediately click the link and was directed to LOLshow Christmas Giveaway! I was wondering why of all the names, why was #LOLshow choosen? Is it a comedy talk show? Or it is a show to prank people?

LOL is an abbreviation for laughing out loud and it is one of the most used internet slang in the cyberspace. This was the first thing that came to my mind!

Example: LOL! What was this guy trying to do.. Haha..

I lost my podcast virginity to #LOLshow

#LOLshow is hosted by John Lim, Niki Cheong (from The Star’s R.AGE), David Wang (from The ClickStarter and founder of BuzzMedia), and David Lian (Text100′s Asia-Pacific Social Media Practice Lead) to discuss the biggest news on social media and the Web every week. Told from a Malaysian perspective, the Life Online Show rounds up all you need to know about the fast-moving world of social media in about 30 minutes.
I decided to give this contest a try and listened to #LOLshow Episode 11. It discussed many current issues that are happening on the cyberspace ranging from WikiLeaks, effects of social medias on politics as well as the success of Mark Zuckerberg's facebook in year 2010. The discussion was fast and spontaneous. It sounded more like four gentleman sitting down in a coffee house giving opinions in their field of interest. I was expecting it to be dull, draggy and boring but I was proven wrong as the terms used are simple and a lay man like me would understand it easily. It attracts my attention even more because all the hosts are familiar faces on twitter which I hope I could meet them one day to tell them how infuential they are on twitterjaya.

Stories that stood out in year 2010

News that made a great impact on Malaysia cyberspace was the setting up of the fan page 1M Malaysians Reject 100-storey Mega Tower on facebook. Extracted from the fan page, the description is "Set up a day after the 2010 Budget day, this page began as a vehicle for Malaysians to say no to the RM5-Billion 100-storey Mega Tower proposed by PM Najib in the 2011 budget. Malaysia needs better education, better health care, better public transportation, safer neighbourhood, cleaner water, but not taller building and not another white elephant!Today, with 280,000 members, we are proudly a non-partisan political community of ordinary Malaysians demanding public accountability and better value for tax money. A desire for a better tomorrow unites us Malaysians from all walks of life." Although still far from the projected amount of members, this page still provides frequent upadates on the goal they are fighting for.

Recently, Malaysia was also shocked when a guy admitted publicly he was gay on youtube. Watch the video here. As usual, his video received loads of attention from political leaders, religious people, bloggers and the public on his confession. Some may agree with his actions but some might disagree and put in lots of criticism. I think everyone deserve theit bits of freedom in the cyberspace to express theselves.

Twitterjaya was so proud when #iheartmalaysia were listed as one of the top trendings in the world when The Star's R.AGE organised a contest on twitter in conjunction with Malaysia National Day. Months later which was last week, HATE MALAYSIA became one of the top trending when Indonesia lost to Malaysia in the first leg final match in the Suzuki Cup. Indonesia football fans blamed Malaysia fans for using laser to distract their players. #msiacheatlaser and #iloveindonesia also make it to the trending list on the same day. On the returning leg, KHAIRUL FAHMI the Malaysia's goalkeeper made it to the trending list when he made several brilliat saves to help Malaysia bring back the Cup for the first time in history.

Feedbacks to improve the show

1. Try to invite some active bloggers or the public to go on the show to give their 2 cents and this might attract more listeners if people close to them are feature on the talkshow.

2. Inject more humour into it as technical details are sometime boring.

3. Cover more stories on the local scenes that are not pupularly discussed on the cyberspace so that Malaysians are aware about it.

4. More giveaways! Be it a movie ticket or a BlackBerry, it is still a gimmick to publicise #LOLshow.

It is so generous of #LOLshow to offer its listeners a chance of winning BlackBerry Curve 3G! It comes with 2MP camera with flash, GPS, WiFi & 3G, Optical trackpad + media keys and BlackBerry messenger which allows everyone to connect to any social medias easily.

All you need to do is just listen the podcast, share your thoughts on #LOLshow Episode 11, what other stories you thought stood out in 2010, give feedbacks on how to improve the show and you could be a winner. That's easy peasy lemon squeezy!

Why I desparately need a BlackBerry

I am staying in a hostel with limited internet connectivity. Computers in the computer lab are limited thus it is difficult not to carry my bulky laptop to class but at the same time I am afarid of snatch thieves. This BlackBerry comes in handy for me to check my mails and read my tweets because social medias had help me to know the world withou border.

Free like a bird! Oops, it should be free like a monkey!
