My First Podcast #LOLshowand Stand A Chance to Win a Blackberry

Since I am having my semester break now, I actively paticipate in many online contests. While reading through my Facebook news feed, BlackBerry Malaysia fan page offer the chance to win a BlackBerry Curve 3G!

Without any hesitation, I immediately click the link and was directed to LOLshow Christmas Giveaway! I was wondering why of all the names, why was #LOLshow choosen? Is it a comedy talk show? Or it is a show to prank people?

LOL is an abbreviation for laughing out loud and it is one of the most used internet slang in the cyberspace. This was the first thing that came to my mind!

Example: LOL! What was this guy trying to do.. Haha..

I lost my podcast virginity to #LOLshow

#LOLshow is hosted by John Lim, Niki Cheong (from The Star’s R.AGE), David Wang (from The ClickStarter and founder of BuzzMedia), and David Lian (Text100′s Asia-Pacific Social Media Practice Lead) to discuss the biggest news on social media and the Web every week. Told from a Malaysian perspective, the Life Online Show rounds up all you need to know about the fast-moving world of social media in about 30 minutes.
I decided to give this contest a try and listened to #LOLshow Episode 11. It discussed many current issues that are happening on the cyberspace ranging from WikiLeaks, effects of social medias on politics as well as the success of Mark Zuckerberg's facebook in year 2010. The discussion was fast and spontaneous. It sounded more like four gentleman sitting down in a coffee house giving opinions in their field of interest. I was expecting it to be dull, draggy and boring but I was proven wrong as the terms used are simple and a lay man like me would understand it easily. It attracts my attention even more because all the hosts are familiar faces on twitter which I hope I could meet them one day to tell them how infuential they are on twitterjaya.

Stories that stood out in year 2010

News that made a great impact on Malaysia cyberspace was the setting up of the fan page 1M Malaysians Reject 100-storey Mega Tower on facebook. Extracted from the fan page, the description is "Set up a day after the 2010 Budget day, this page began as a vehicle for Malaysians to say no to the RM5-Billion 100-storey Mega Tower proposed by PM Najib in the 2011 budget. Malaysia needs better education, better health care, better public transportation, safer neighbourhood, cleaner water, but not taller building and not another white elephant!Today, with 280,000 members, we are proudly a non-partisan political community of ordinary Malaysians demanding public accountability and better value for tax money. A desire for a better tomorrow unites us Malaysians from all walks of life." Although still far from the projected amount of members, this page still provides frequent upadates on the goal they are fighting for.

Recently, Malaysia was also shocked when a guy admitted publicly he was gay on youtube. Watch the video here. As usual, his video received loads of attention from political leaders, religious people, bloggers and the public on his confession. Some may agree with his actions but some might disagree and put in lots of criticism. I think everyone deserve theit bits of freedom in the cyberspace to express theselves.

Twitterjaya was so proud when #iheartmalaysia were listed as one of the top trendings in the world when The Star's R.AGE organised a contest on twitter in conjunction with Malaysia National Day. Months later which was last week, HATE MALAYSIA became one of the top trending when Indonesia lost to Malaysia in the first leg final match in the Suzuki Cup. Indonesia football fans blamed Malaysia fans for using laser to distract their players. #msiacheatlaser and #iloveindonesia also make it to the trending list on the same day. On the returning leg, KHAIRUL FAHMI the Malaysia's goalkeeper made it to the trending list when he made several brilliat saves to help Malaysia bring back the Cup for the first time in history.

Feedbacks to improve the show

1. Try to invite some active bloggers or the public to go on the show to give their 2 cents and this might attract more listeners if people close to them are feature on the talkshow.

2. Inject more humour into it as technical details are sometime boring.

3. Cover more stories on the local scenes that are not pupularly discussed on the cyberspace so that Malaysians are aware about it.

4. More giveaways! Be it a movie ticket or a BlackBerry, it is still a gimmick to publicise #LOLshow.

It is so generous of #LOLshow to offer its listeners a chance of winning BlackBerry Curve 3G! It comes with 2MP camera with flash, GPS, WiFi & 3G, Optical trackpad + media keys and BlackBerry messenger which allows everyone to connect to any social medias easily.

All you need to do is just listen the podcast, share your thoughts on #LOLshow Episode 11, what other stories you thought stood out in 2010, give feedbacks on how to improve the show and you could be a winner. That's easy peasy lemon squeezy!

Why I desparately need a BlackBerry

I am staying in a hostel with limited internet connectivity. Computers in the computer lab are limited thus it is difficult not to carry my bulky laptop to class but at the same time I am afarid of snatch thieves. This BlackBerry comes in handy for me to check my mails and read my tweets because social medias had help me to know the world withou border.

Free like a bird! Oops, it should be free like a monkey!

3. You can post pictures (about the beach) or about your diving hobby or about your dream picture using the camera. It's up to your creativity.

Here is my write up to impress Red Ribbon Boutique and Blog to part away with the lovely camera!

These are my bunch of friends who give me hair-raising experiences everytime we travel together. I've known them since the very beginning of my university's life. We have been to places like Sarawak, Malacca and Genting Highlands. This will be our final semester together and hopefully our next destination before we part our way will be Redang, Bali or Krabi.

I cannot swim well too. Everytime I go on a beach or sea side vacation with my family, all I can do is just sit in the boat and hope for them to take out some surprises from the sea for me to pose a photo with it to prove to others I have been to this place.

Since I only owned this old but trusty Konica film camera, which I cannot bring it along down to the water when I am diving to capture the colourful scenes.

This is the best picture I am able to get of the fishes and other underwater living creatures.

And I know my best friends will definitely drag me down into the sea together with them to enjoy the wonders of the world although I cannot swim well. And I'll need a Fuji Underwater Camera on the mission to capture wonderful moments with them and the sea creatures.

(picture googled)

When my friends are notorious enough, here is what they will do to you when you are capturing their photos. And I definitely need a better camera to safeguard from the water splashing towards me.

It's time for us to finish our university life together with a big bang and enjoy like no body business as it is difficult for us to meet up again as we came from different part of Malaysia.

Life is so rewarding when you look back at the beautiful memories imprinted on a wonderful picture.

Hopefully the next time a courier man honk at my door, it will be a package from Red Ribbon Boutique and Blog seal with lots of love with the Fuji Underwater Camera inside.

Scream! If you are Bieber's Fan.

1. Justin Bieber-Baby ft. Ludacris

2.

3.
Justin Bieber! Some will scream their lungs out, some will never like him. Some even created hate groups against Bieber on Facebook.

Well for me as long as he produces nice songs, he will definitely have a place in my heart.

Bieber mania started from youtube and attracted millions of views worldwide. Soon, he was sign by Usher's joint venture company and his entertainment life started.

Why I am into Bieber?

Firstly, because the lyrics of his song is easy to remember.

Secondly, the tune of his song is very catchy.

These two factors make me want to jump up and sing along with him everytime I listen to his music to the amusement of everyone around me.

A local radio station even dedicated few hours of airwave only for Bieber's song.

For all Bieber's fans out there, post a love note on UMM's Facebook and look forward for him to have a showcase at Malaysia.

I have proved my love for him, have you?
